My charming daughter
Stella had her 9 month well-baby checkup on Tuesday and all is well. At 17 lbs 12 oz and just shy of 27 inches (though I dispute this because Stella was rolling all over the table and the nurse didn't seem at all interested in getting an accurate measurement) she is technically a bit of a peanut. I don't know HOW, because she's still nursing enthusiastically and eating solids as fast as she can shovel them into her mouth, not to mention rapidly outgrowing half of her 12 month clothes...but I suppose being in a perpetual state of motion will burn a lot of calories. I was just expecting her to be much heavier and longer. She seems like a bigger baby.
Stella is still showing signs of a sensitivity to dairy (hives around her mouth) so again, we were told to give it a few more months before trying to reintroduce cheese or yogurt. I told the doctor I was worried she wouldn't outgrow it by the time she was supposed to start on whole milk, and she said if that was the case, I could just keep nursing. Sigh. I do plan on letting her self-wean but I was kind of hoping it would happen soon after a year. Call me selfish but I have been looking forward to having that freedom again. Stella won't take a bottle so I've never been able to let anyone else handle her feedings and that has been rough. Plus with the constant acrobatics and now the biting, nursing is a lot less sweet than it was when she was wee. I'm happy I've been able to do it...just ready to be done soon. So I guess we'll see.
Developmentally, she's right on track and hitting all the milestones. She's doing the inchworm scooting all over the living room and doing her damndest to get up on her knees, which has resulted in rug burn on her cheeks, but she will not be deterred. Yesterday she finally ventured into the kitchen and had great fun slapping the linoleum while I cooked. If you can't tell from her pictures, she has personality to spare, and keeps us laughing (and utterly worn out) all the time.
Anyhow, that's all for the Stella update. Today I am starting my second loaf of the amazing no-knead bread. It's easy to throw together but requires 18 hours to rise so I will have to talk about that next time. And the screamy one calls...
Exhaustedly,
Bonnie

Bonnie, I've been meaning to tell you that Pearl is almost exactly the same size -- well, 17 lbs 5 oz, but close enough!
ReplyDeleteHope Stella is giving you a relatively scream-free day...
Rosebud's nursing dropped off quite a bit once she was around Stella's age, so there is hope! She doesn't like milk, by the way, and I was worried about that. My pediatrician said not to be too concerned, because in our case, she likes yogurt and eats a lot of that. I wonder if there is another way for her to get her calcium, apart from milk? It might be something to ask your pediatrician so you can wean when you would like to (which, I firmly believe, is important to wean when you are ready).
